As the title explains, my flight for my 2026 excursion to Italy was cancelled while on the way to the airport. I received the notice about ten minutes out of the driveway. Everything packed, friends on their way, reservations all made for specific dates and times.

Thankfully…. I was able to book a new flight to get me to arrive 2 hours later than I originally planned and two to three hours after my friends had arrived.

However, the biometric check-in machines broke for boarding so that plane was late leaving. Then I had to spend over an hour dealing with passport control. Following that was a dead sprint tot the gate. I managed to get there just as boarding started. All of this turned my original 10am arrival times to a 1:20pm arrival time. The only thing that went right was a smooth rental car retrieval.

We got into our only stop almost 5 hours later than expected. So, we did a short walk through Perugia, shopped for supplies at a Lidl and headed off to out lodging.

For the next few nights we are staying at a castle I have stayed at before, Castle Giomici.

After a quick drop off of our luggage, we headed out looking for food. The town was have a festival of some sort that involved some fire works that we smelled but did not see.

The whole meal was 15 Euros per person plus on alcoholic drink. No it was not mine but this day made me get close! Some sort of festival weekend with special pricing. We were lucky to get a table. Everyone got a past dish and a protein dish but two of us always got the same thing; hence, not three choices for each course.

Super tired after today, almost fell asleep 4 times trying to write this. Tomorrow has to be better!
