Poland 2024

This will be a short post as I have done a lot of traveling today.

As the title should indicate, I am visiting Poland on this trip. After, around, 18 hours of travel; I believe I’m the first person in my family to go to Poland in 40-60 years. My great grandfather having come from Poland, with his brothers, in the early 1900’s. We know he visited in the 1960’s but I don’t know for certain if anyone has been back since that time.

So, here I am. Where, at least part of, my family is originally from. A place, I’ve read, is a lesser known jewel of Europe.

I’m starting in the city of Gdańsk. A port city in the north, Gdańsk is a popular tourist destination and with only a short time here, I can see why. The Old City was rebuilt after WWII and what I’ve seen, on the way to find dinner, is stunning!

The historic front of my hotel.

Wouldn’t be a port city without a statue of Poseidon.

I did, eventually, find dinner at a restaurant called Bonzur. For my first meal in Poland, I did go with pierogi but not like any I’ve ever had before. Tonight’s dinner was wild boar pierogi with a Moscow Mule mocktail.

Simple and delicious, also soooo much better than anything I’d had on the travel to Poland.

I should have a fair number more pictures tomorrow, after I get some much needed rest.

Very nice. Where are you heading to after Gdansk? My family was in and around Mlawa about 70 to 90 kilometers due south. Mlawa was the scene of some large WWII battles as its on the high ground. Keep the pictures coming. Mark
