Today was a day of long drives. I’ve pretty much seen everything up around Doolin so I headed south to the very tip of the coast called Loop Head. There are cliffs there similar to those at Moher and a walk as well. What I did not know was that the walk was much shorter than what you can do at Moher and the view of the cliffs is not as grand.
That being said, when you walk to the edge, and yes you can walk right up and off the edge, the sound of the waves hitting the cliffs is intense! As you get close to the edge it almost sounds like a deep drum being hit, just this bass sound that you can really feel. Then you get to the point where you can see the waves hitting the cliffs and see just how high up from the ocean you are.
I did not get too close. There are zero guard rails and just open space pulling you out. Ugh, I don’t even like to think about it. So, I got as close as I was comfortable with and even that was impressive. Some of the waves hitting the cliffs were breaking and shooting up like four stories! If you fall over you are not making it back up, that’s for sure.

Now it had taken me an hour and a half to get to Loop Head and it would take almost that same amount of time to get to my stop for the afternoon. Lunch was thrown in there also but not memorable.
My afternoon stop was a walled garden called Vandeleur. The garden is well kept up, in the middle of a forest reserve and free! However, as beautiful as the garden is there is a dedication plaque that reminds visitors that the beauty was not without cost. The plaque dedicates the current garden to those evicted by the family that originally built it in the 1800’s.

Ending my last day in Doolin was one last meal at McGann’s pub. Knowing that I’m heading out tomorrow, the pub made sure to have live music again for me!
What, no sheep today?
