It was a long drive today. Moving further west, to my new lodging was always going to be the longest drive of the trip but, oof! More than five hours just to get there, not counting stops along the way.
The exciting part today was going to Dartmoor! This is a national park, yet somehow with towns in it. I don’t understand how their system works here. Either way the park preserves the ancient moors here and allows the, semi-wild ponies to roam here too. That’s right, free roaming ponies can bee seen across the moor.
After leaving The Stag hotel, I headed for Dartmoor. As it was going to be a three hour drive, I was going to arrive pretty much at lunch time so I just made the restaurant I had chosen the first destination.
The Old Inn in Widecombe was built in the 1500’s but thankfully their menu has been updated as time has gone on.

Your dog is also very welcome.

After refueling myself, I headed back out into Dartmoor. Some of the roads were interesting with one road having a warning that vehicles over 7 feet wide would not be able to make it through. Thankfully, I am driving a very compact car.
The moors are beautiful in an empty way but I’m not great with landscapes.

But the best part of the day was finding the ponies.

Some of the locals also have a sense of humor.

Another two hours, and some very narrow roads later, I finally arrived at Mousehole, my base camp for the next few days.

Looks like tomorrow is going to be a nice day!
