Greece 2025, Day 10

“Imagine, if you will…” This has been a constant refrain during the entire trip. Many of the sights we have been to are little more that worked stones scattered along the ground.

Today was no different as we headed to Ancient Mycenae. This ancient city might be more familiar to you if you know of the legend of the Battle of Troy. Agamemnon was the king who led the armies that besieged Troy and was king of Mycenae.

It was a good thing we got to Mycenae first thing. When we arrived there were a few cars in the parking lot but all of our photos have no one in them. By the time we left, the parking lot was full of busses and the site looked like an ant hill.

The grand entrance to the city.

Famous lion gates.

The views from the top of the city are stunning!

Stairs up from the cistern.

Upper cistern.

Vaulted tomb.

Far more people than the morning.

Entrance of Agamemnon’s Tomb.

The only Mycenaean fresco found on site.

I loved this little chariot with rider.

In the afternoon, we tried to hit up a vineyard for a tasting but they all seemed closed. We did find a small Greek site of the town of Nemea. This was a neutral location where the Greeks held sporting games. The site was only used for 70 years before they were moved to the larger city of Argos.

As we weren’t having any luck with our afternoon locations we headed back to Nafplio to have a walk around the city streets.

We hit up a fairly busy restaurant for dinner that got busier when a tour group arrived.

Mushroom Risotto.

Grilled Sausage.

Pork Cutlets.

Tomorrow we go for our last drive as we head back to Athens.
