Greece 2025, Day 9

It was all up hill today. We visited the abandoned medieval town of Mystras. It was nice not to do an Ancient Greek site for a change but much of the old town was still in ruins. Only the churches from the monasteries and the old palace have been restored.

Not quite open yet.

They had a lot of restored murals.

Stairs.

A lot of stairs.

Convent.

Another furry friend.

Used to getting treats from bags.

They brought a few friends.

We ended up at great restaurant, called Ktima Skreka, for lunch because they had put an advert in our car door.

Great salad!

We did drive through nearby Sparta, modern day Sparti, on our way to our new lodging.

They do have a statue to Leonidas.

Most of Sparta looks like this.

There isn’t much of Ancient Sparta left so we did not bother with a visit.

Our new lodging is Nafplio, an old Venetian port very much dedicated to tourism. It feels a great deal like Rethymno, with a great number of restaurants and lodging.

View from my balcony.

Tomorrow we have some possible wine tastings in store!
