Greece 2025, Day 8

Today was the unluckiest day yet. We didn’t have a massive amount on the agenda for today, just visit the site of the original Olympic Games. This seemed easy enough at the start, until we tried to find the parking.

Normally, most major sites have very obvious parking areas with signs guiding you in. We didn’t find the actual parking until we were headed out of town. After driving around looking for the official parking we gave up and chose to park on the street. As we pulled up to the curb we could hear a loud hissing sound. The patch on our passenger side front tire had come off and the tire quickly deflated. We were able to change the tire over to a small emergency tire and decided that we would tour the site and call for assistance during lunch.

The bulk of the buildings at Ancient Olympia have long since tumbled down to ruins due to time and a few earthquakes. There are a few buildings that are being restored but most of the buildings look like an angry toddler knocked down their blocks.

Temple of Zeus.

Temple of Hera.

Entrance to the race track.

Original Olympic race track.

After our walk through the grounds we hit up lunch and called up our rental company to see what could be done to get us back to normal speeds on the road. After an unhelpful hour with customer support and a more helpful tow truck driver we were told to find a tire repair facility as they didn’t have any business that they work with in our area. We ended up at Bris Tyres who had us back on the road in short order after, not only, repairing the tire but checking all of the other tires and finding them all with low pressure and with mostly no tread.

We did end our adventures for the day on a higher note as we did hit up one more olive oil producer who let us taste, and buy, a very spicy olive oil!

Dinner for the evening was unimpressive and we are hoping for better options in our next lodging point.

Gyro, I would have liked Sardines but they were out.
