Turned out to be a lucky day today. It was originally supposed to rain all day and ended up with only an extremely light sprinkle first thing and then settled into a grey day.
After grabbing a quick breakfast, I headed over to the Krakow Underground museum. Similar to the Archaeological Museum in Montreal, this museum is under the streets of current day Krakow. Relatively new, this museum provides a multimedia exhibit exploring the different layers found underneath the main market plaza. It was a great museum with a lot of info! Unfortunately, most of what it presents really doesn’t do well as a photograph so I only have a few here.

After the underground museum I headed over to St. Mary’s Basilica. Aside from its prominent position on the main square it is also home to a very unique altar. Carved completely from wood over the course of 12 years. The altar represented Kraków’s wealth and prominence on the world stage.

I hit up a cute little restaurant for lunch where I thought I was getting potato pancakes with apples but ended up getting crepes.

I spent the rest of my time just wandering the streets. I’ve really enjoyed my time in Poland. I’ve wanted to visit for years to see where some of my family had come from. Poland should definitely be considered a destination in Europe along side more popular countries like France and Italy. It has a very wide variety of experiences to offer.
I think my favorite city was definitely Gdańsk. I loved the architecture and the way they redid the old city to keep the character. I wish I had had more time to check out some of the nearby towns that are other popular sites. My best meal was in Toruń with the gnocchi with the soup and cheese meal in Zakopane a close second. I would love to spend some more time in Zakopane as well. I can only see its popularity rising throughout Europe and they are already building to accommodate it.
Tomorrow I start my very long trek home but I can see myself planning another trip to Poland in the future.
