Poland 2024 Day 12

I received a pleasant surprise today and ended up with a sunny day! I had planned for two rainy days in Krakow so to get even one sunny day was fantastic.

I spent the first part of today at the Wawel Castle, one of the must sees of Krakow. There are several different tickets you can get to tour parts of the castle. I opted for Castle II for a couple of reasons. First, I figured everyone would go for Castle I by default. Second, Castle II has the Turkish Tent extra exhibit and I was very curious as to what that is.

Parts of the castle have been redone as it seems like the castle burned on multiple occasions. The inside is gorgeous and on par with any royal castle in Western Europe.

Once I finished the castle state rooms, I proceeded to the Turkish tent exhibit. This contains three tents of Turkish origin, several pieces of Turkish arms and armor, as well as several damaged wooden carvings saved from a church during the Communist era.

After visiting the castle I headed down the river side below to see a dragon!

Lunch was a Polish style pizza.

This whole round building is just a series of pizza shops.

Then I wandered around Krakow to enjoy the pleasant weather. I also grabbed a little treat.

A quince filled paczki. It’s a Polish donut, if you haven’t seen the name before.

Very good!

They had a lot of choices.

Giant tourist trap. Great place to get a souvenir.

Dinner was a bit lighter than normal. I can only take so much rich food before I need a break.

Miso soup.

Eel roll.

Hopefully the rain holds off again tomorrow.
