Italy 2023 Day 9

Sadly, today I had to leave Costello Di Giomici. It was a little out of the was but really excellent lodging at a very good price and the view were awesome! As I was a bit ahead of the schedule of places to visit I kinda winged today. I headed off for the medieval town of Gubbio just a short drive away.

Gubbio’s old town is still laid out with the medieval streets and buildings. A canal runs through the town that used to provide power for the various mills. Aside from the churches and restaurants not too much was open but it was a gorgeous sunny day to wander the streets!

Partially restored church front.

Lunch was a smidge disappointing as one of the dishes I wanted wasn’t available but I didn’t find out until I was trying to order. What I had was still pretty good.

The big fun for the day was the new lodging. While I did have to leave a castle, it was to stay at another castle! This time I get to stay in a tower.

My lodging for the night.

View from the bedroom.

I have been really looking forward to dinner this evening! I had looked at the castle’s menu before booking and it looked amazing. I made sure to set up a reservation so that I wouldn’t miss out on dining there. The wait was definitely worth it and I had the best meal of the trip so far and that bar was already se pretty high. Don’t ask how much it cost.

Nettle Tagliatelle with crispy bacon, tomatoes and pecorino.

Pork with juniper berries and, I think, arugula.

Dark Perugian Chocolate with candied orange peals.

After today, tomorrow has a lot to live up to. That may be the dinner talking. It was really excellent!
