Norway 2022 Day 12

The morning started with a fun elevator ride in my car as I headed out from my hotel in Oslo. My main stop today was a trio of museums int western Oslo devoted to their maritime history.

The first museum was the Kon-Tiki Museum, devoted to the experiential expeditions of Thor Heyerdahl. There were two ships on display. The first was a balsam wood ship that was built and sailed to prove that South Americans could have sailed to Polynesia. The second ship was a reed ship built and sailed from Africa to South America to prove Egyptians could have made the journey.

This reed ship is the one I remember hearing about before.

The second museum was devoted to the ship the Fram. This is the ship that carried Norwegian explorers to the Antarctic on their voyage to be the first to the South Pole. At this museum you actually get to walk around on the ship because the built the museum around the ship.

Each crewman had their own bunk.

The final museum was the Norwegian Maritime Museum. I almost didn’t go but they said they had a Viking ship so I had to see it.

Local wreck.

After lunch I headed to my last museum of the trip the Norsk Folkemuseum, they do have a lot of these.

Lack of housing is not only a current problem.
Traditional folk dancers.
The final stave church of the trip.

And with that, my trip to Norway is done! It’s been a fun time with way better weather than I ever expected, spent most of the time in a t-shirt. I have a lot of driving under my belt and got to see some amazing places. I didn’t know what to expect coming her and it was kind of refreshing to see a place with no set expectations.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day of traveling but I should get through a lot of movies on the plane!
