Norway 2022 Day 8

Sadly, I had to leave the lovely lodging with the porch over the fjord. I really didn’t want to. The drive today was to the city of Lillehammer, of both Olympic and Netflix fame. Along the way I was able to see several more stave churches with the first stop being the Borgund stave church. This is, supposedly, one of the best preserved stave churches in Norway with many original pieces.

Later addition bell tower.

The next stop would be the Oye stave church.

Followed by the Hore stave church.

I tried to get to the Lomen stave church but couldn’t find where to park. So, I continued towards the Reinli stave church but ignored my gps for a short bit and I am glad I did. I found the Valdres Folk Museum. An open air museum with 62 historic buildings from the region. It turns out Norway has been preserving their history since the 1850s which has led to several of these museums throughout the country.

As fun as the folk museum was, I did still need to keep moving so I headed to the last stave church on my list for the day, the Reinli stave church. I did, finally, start listening to my gps and it did get me there on some pretty empty roads.

And tomorrow I will get to see even more old buildings!we
