Norway 2022 Day 3

Today was a lot of driving. My main goal today was to do as much of a suggested waterfall route that I could. Norway has a large number of waterfalls and some of the more impressive ones are just east of the town of Bergen so it seemed like a good idea to run to route on my way to the town.

The first waterfall I made it to was Latefossen and only took an hour and a half to get to along a narrow winding road on the edge of a fjord. The ride was great when I wasn’t white knuckle passing cars coming from the opposite direction. The waterfall was impressive and flowed under the road. The limited parking made glad to be coming after the summer season.

The second waterfall Langfossen and, for some reason, did not show up on my rented gps. Thank goodness for Google Maps! This was the highest waterfall I saw today, around 738 feet. There was a lovely path to hike to the top of the falls. I’m sure it has a great view but I had no intention of finding out.

I did finally get to have a lunch today in the town of Oddo. I selected the restaurant based on it being the closest place to the parking lot that smelled of food. Good food and some nice views of the surrounding fjord walls.

Along the very long track to my next and final waterfall I once again passed by hills filled with orchards selling on the side of the road. One on the far side of the fjord had a great view and an actual parking lot so I did pick up a bottle of, what I believe to be, cider.

The final waterfall was Steinsdalsfossen and was the best of the day! You can actually walk up behind the waterfall and, unlike Niagara, you don’t need a rain jacket to do it.

The back side of water.

It took about another hour to get to the town of Bergen and I will be here for several nights, which will be a nice change from the past two days. I did manage to get out in time for dinner and ended up at a restaurant recommended to me by a co-worker who had just come to Norway. So, for my first day in Bergen I ate at Olivia’s and had some great Italian pizza!
