I made the journey to my final lodging before flying back. I had to cross all of Ireland to get closer to the airport for my flight out tomorrow. I had looked for something to see ahead of time and decided on trying to see Newgrange north of Dublin. It was something I had not seen previously so it seemed like the best choice.
As I got closer to Newgrange I repeatedly saw signs for the town of Trim. I had visited Trim on my very first trip to Ireland to see the castle there. The castle is fairly well known as it was used in the filming of Braveheart years back. It’s also the place where I found out that the shoes I was wearing on that first trip were not good on wet surfaces despite being hiking shoes! This led me to take a little slide down some stone stairs at the start of the path around the castle. No such worry this time as it was sunny and dry out!

After a light lunch I continued my journey to Newgrange. Newgrange is a Neolithic tomb built around 3200 B.C. It also requires timed tickets to visit which I did not know about. By the time I got to the visitor’s center they had already posted signs that all timed tickets had been purchased. So, the best I could do was take a picture from the viewing platform they had along the walk. At least I got to see it!

It’s been fun to come to Ireland again and while it rained some every day I did get to see sunshine as well. Tomorrow will be the leisurely trip back home and this time I do not have a red eye flight!
