North and west of Killarney sits the Dingle Peninsula. Somehow I feel that this peninsula is a bit more famous than the Kerry one but that be because I had heard of it years before ever going to Ireland. Just like Kerry it is very rural, perhaps even more so. There are also not nearly as many roads so there are not as many routes. Still, the scenery of Dingle is what many people think of when they think of Ireland.

Today I was trying to see some of the sights that I had missed on my first trip to Dingle. In the morning I managed to visit the Famine Cottages and the Beehive Huts.
The Famine Cottages were both fun and depressing. The fun part was the animals they had on the path up to the cottages. The depressing part was, obviously, the cottages themselves. They had wealth of information on the famine that I had never heard or read before.
The beehive huts were a bit anticlimactic and seemed to be a part of an old ring fort.

Lunch was in the town of Dingle itself and was the best meal I have had on the trip so far!

After lunch I grabbed some ice cream from Murphy’s, a very popular local ice cream parlor with some very unusual flavors.

Dingle is very similar to Kinsale if on a much smaller scale, with a host of restaurants and shops. It’s a fantastic town to wander through especially on a sunny day!

I spent the rest of the afternoon getting kind of lost on the peninsula. I thought I was doing a loop around the whole peninsula only end up back at Dingle because a set of mountains blocked further roads and I had not looked at a map before heading out. Oops!

Sadly, this was my last day in Kerry. Tomorrow is off to Doolin!
