Scotland 2019, Day 9

on

Sadly, today I left the Orkney Isles for the mainland. I really enjoyed my time on the isles and hope to go back again someday.

Today was mostly driving as I had to travel from the ferry port in the north down to Elgin. As the ferry didn’t port until 12:30 I only had time for one stop on the drive south.

I ended up at Dunrobin Castle about an hour or so north of Inverness. The castle was expanded and renovated to approximate a French castle. There wasn’t a whole lot of the castle’s history in the write ups that I saw so I don’t have all that much info on the castle. Still, I did take a bunch of pictures!

There was also a small but very full museum of artifacts that one of the previous owners of the castle had collected.

There were also some excellent gardens between the castle and the sea.

Best of all, they help injured birds of prey and had just finished a falconry demonstration after I went into the gardens.
