Scotland 2019, Day 5

on

Today was a day of driving, from Ullapool through Durness and all the way up to Thurso. There were only a couple of stops I wanted to make during the day so mostly I just soaked up the amazing views. I wish any of my photos would do the vistas justice but nothing short of being there really gives the right feeling, so you’ll just have to go yourself!

I did I encounter a Scottish traffic jam just before i stopped for lunch.

Lunch was worth the wait though.

Cocoa Mountain in Durness is a must stop along the route!

My biggest stop of the day was the Smoo sea cave, yes that’s really the name. A short hike down to the beach and you can walk right in and get straight to a stunning waterfall. If you want, the local spelunking club will bring you in further into the cave system. I did not want, I don’t do caves. No, thank you! The walk into see the waterfall was more than enough for me.

After the cave, it was a sunny drive the rest of the way.

Tomorrow I finally get to see the Orkney Isles after a very early ferry ride. I do so love waking up early in the morning….
