Croatia/Italy Day 10

Today’s blog is going to be a bit light on descriptive content. What I had hoped was allergies seems to be turning into a full head cold. This combined with the Zyrtec that I took and apparently wasn’t the non-drowsy formula means that I limped through most of today in a kind of haze.

The first part of today was spent at a small walled city of Monteriggioni. Once controlled by Siena and fortified to help protect against advances by Florence, this town was never taken until the wider use of gunpowder weapons. It takes all of a minute at most to walk across the town and maybe a half hour to see everything. I’m pretty sure they make their money by what they get charging for parking.

Next on the agenda was the city of Siena. Any number of people told me that I had to go and since I had missed it on my last trip Siena was a must do.

I was very proud of myself for finding parking so quickly since I heard that it is normally difficult. This feeling lasted until I realized that I hadn’t parked next to city walls but a fort located just outside of the city. As a consolation, it wasn’t a long walk to the actual city but as it had now started to rain it felt longer.

After walking around for a bit to find the major sights and spending far to much on lunch I hit up the Duomo di Siena. Getting into the church was easy after buying a ticket. Waiting in lines for around an hour to get a panoramic view of the city was a little more frustrating.

The Duomo was gorgeous and totally worth the drive in! Best of all they let you take pictures. Just remember, no flash!

Also, two shots that are a little strange. The physical remains of two Christian Saints.

The last set here are just a mix of view around Siena and from another church.

Tomorrow will be Easter Sunday and I hope to catch at least one procession in Florence. I’ve also heard that all State museums are free on the first of each month!
