Sadly, today will be another short post.
I left Dubrovnik this morning to travel to the city of Split for the next three nights. I had hoped to seem a small museum along the way but they would only be open till 1 PM as it is Sunday. Turns out that this is the case for pretty much everything. I also found out, after arriving in Split, that the better route to take is along the coast where as I took the highway. So, several missteps today.
The ride that I took was fairly pretty on its own. I passed through several mountains passes and many of them still have snow. Once I arrived in Split I decided not to try to drive to see anything else as getting into the parking for the hotel is a pain.
The rest of today consisted of a walk through the old city of Split and Split is definitely a city. There is a great amount of urban sprawl from the core made up of the old city. The old city itself is built in the shell of a Roman palace and you can see the architecture almost ever where mixed with medieval and renaissance styles. The area by the water feels very similar to French Riviera cities that I’ve been to.
This was reinforced today by the warmer weather. Once I arrived at Split the sun was finally present again! It seems like everyone was set to enjoy it. Many of the restaurants and cafes had their outside tables set and I don’t think I ever saw a dip in the number of people sitting at the cafes, walking along the water or relaxing on the benches. I was surprised to see many people enjoying ice cream this afternoon! It was much warmer, I walked around without a coat, but I still thought it a bit cool to warrant walking around with an ice cream cone. Apparently, I was in the minority.
Since that was literally the whole day I will leave off with some images from around Split and hope that I have better luck with tomorrow’s sights.
